Sightseeing in Tampere, Finland

The city of Nokia has around 30 000 people.  One of our neighbors is Tampere, one of the biggest cities in Finland with over 230 000 inhabitants. Venla took Ted to Tampere one evening and showed him the sights!

Ted arrives in Tampere. He sees something very tall. What's that?

That's Näsinneula, the second tallest observation tower in the Nordic countries and the most famous symbol of Tampere!

It's located in Särkänniemi which is an awesome amusement park - in the summer season.  If you visit us again in the summer, let's go together! In the winter you can visit the aquarium or planetarium or dine up in Näsinneula in the rotating restaurant.

We are arriving in the heart of Tampere. You can see a lot of old red brick houses looking like old factories. And they are! They are so famous that they are "Finnish national landscape".

Nowadays there are not that many factories there anymore but we have many theaters in Tampere. They are playing Cats in this Tampere theater right now!

Tampere theater is located at the central market place.  In December we have Joulutori there - that's Christmas market. Ted smelled German sausages, candy and baked goodies between the handicrafts, toys etc.

Look! Ted found the Finnish flag, too!

One of the best places to see Tampere is Pyynikki observation tower. Yes, we have two! It is located on the world's largest esker just a walking distance from the central market place. The current tower is 80 years old and made of stone.

The view is spectacular. Ted spotted Näsinneula tower, too! Can you see it, all lit blue for Finland100?

The tower is wonderful and the view breathtaking but the best thing in the tower might just be the cafe. It is open every day of the year and they have the best cinnamon doughnuts in the world! If you don't believe us, come and have a bite!

Thanks Venla and family for a lovely evening in Tampere. It's time to drive back to Nokia. It's only 20 min by car.
